Larkin’s All-Star Day, Vrana Saga, and Zadina Returns

Dylan Larkin was Detroit’s only representative at the 2023 NHL All-Star game, but he made sure to shine arguably more than anybody else!

Tune in as we discuss the All-Star weekend, including what’s wrong with the Skills Competition, how Larkin fared in the Fastest Skater, how Hardest Shot & other events should be the focus, & what we’d do to “fix” the weekend – plus a review on Larkin’s 5 goal performance during the All-Star game (with Matthew Tkachuk edging him out for MVP) (5:25)!

In Red Wings news, Steve Yzerman waived Adam Erne to make room for Jonatan Berggren and, more surprisingly to some, Filip Zadina, who just finished a conditioning stint with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. With Erne clearing, what’s next for Lalonde’s roster? Does Zadina finally break out? Was waiving Erne the “right” move (16:30)?

Also, Jakub Vrana has been heating up in the AHL. With him possibly back to his scoring ways, is there a path back to the Red Wings roster for him (24:40)?

In addition to a quick note about Soderblom and Edvinsson playing well, we also cover Bo Horvat’s 8 year, $8.5 million per season contract with Lou Lamoriello & the Islanders, what that means for Dylan Larkin’s contract, whether it’s a comparable deal to what he might make in Hockeytown, Steve Yzerman’s position, & more (32:05).

Finally, what the NHL has to do to increase its reach & viewership compared to other major sports leagues (40:25) before we take your questions during Overtime (48:50) – enjoy!
