1. You have really good vision and playmaking ability. Do you think that’s because you grew up around hockey and it’s natural? Or have you had to work at it?

“I would say it’s just the way I grew up around hockey. Everyone kind of starts a different way, and for me I always just liked to play all kinds of games whether that was on the outdoor rink or scrimmaging in practice. I think that, along with great hockey minds, being my dad and grandpa has helped me a lot.”

2. You scored a variety of goals this year wrist shots on odd man rushes, rebound goals and quick release one-timers and wrist shots on the power play. Do you think you can add more goals to your game? And what area of goal scoring do you want to improve?

“I haven’t scored a backhand goal in some time so my goal is to score some of those next year.”

3. How frustrating was the wrist injury during the Bemidji series so early into the season?  How long did it take for it to feel 100%?

“Yeah that obviously was disappointing but watching and adding fuel to the fire of our team not winning made me want to help as much as I could when I got back. Then I would say when I got my brace off after Christmas break I started to feel my hands were back.”

4. What was your favorite play of the season? (WJC goal, Miami saucer pass in OT, goal against ASU where you stripped the puck at center?)

“I would have to say against Denver in game one, when a play our power play had been working on all week in practice turned out perfect and ended up being a big goal in a win against a top team in our league.”

5. You put up 1.22 ppg as a true freshman which puts you with some elite company. How much confidence did you have playing with your brother Zam and Jayson Shaugabay?

“Yeah, I don’t know. I think if you look at that it looks like a good year, but games when I was playing still didn’t turn into as many wins as our team obviously wanted. So I would say having a good summer now without having the year we wanted makes us all very hungry going into next year.”

6. How was the adaptation from the NTDP to the NCAA? And how do you think the program prepared you for college hockey?

“I would say it prepared me for college hockey better than any other team or league can just based on the day to day there.”

7. What areas of your game are you trying to improve on?

“Endurance and turnovers.”

8. What’s an attribute of yours do people think of as a weakness but you think of as a strength?

“People always say I pass too much but I feel like I like to play with people that pass too me so Do unto others as you would have them do unto you’.”

9. I would say you are a highly competitive player. Have you always played that way and what do you attribute that to?

“I attribute that to not wanting to lose and just playing against my brothers and friends whether that’s hockey or anything I do.”

10. How much recruiting did you have to do to get Brady Cleveland to come to UMD? And what are your goals for next season?

“Hahahah I don't know if you saw the hit he layed on me when we played CC last year but I told him he can do that to me everyday in practice next year if he comes here.

I’ll keep my goals in my own mind but I feel like you can guess some of them.”
